Since last week, the temperature has increased to extremely hot, unbearable conditions. This week it reached up to 95 with humidity. My room is filled with seven fans which are on 24-hours a day, pumping hot air onto my body. I leave the windows open constantly and my RA taught me a new trick: to put my window fans facing outward during the day to remove the hot air, and at night, face them back inward to keep the cool air in.
Simmons Hall recently created a “Cool Down Room”, where they set up three air conditioners and a fan. My friend Sloane and I always go in there to do our work or just cool off after a walk in town. The room is always filled with sweaty students who are just trying to cool off due to these harsh temperatures.
My friends and I have found a new lunch spot we like to eat at: Irving’s. The sandwich, soup, and salad place have everything a person can want. My new favorite order is the Sinoma turkey sandwich. A sandwich topped with turkey, swiss cheese, Russian dressing and lettuce and tomato.
Earlier in the week, my friend Sloane and I went to get manicures downtown. Although the place looked nice in the inside, it was not what I was used to at my salon back home. We signed in for our appointments and went straight to pick out a nail polish color. Of course, I decided to go with pink. Sloane got called first to go get her manicure, and I was told to wait. After waiting for 20 minutes I was finally called to get my nails done. The women kindly apologized for the wait and continued to shape, file, and polish my nails. Once both Sloane and I’s nails were finished, it was time to pay. As I approach the counter, the women at the desk said, “Amanda today we will not be charging you due to how long you have waited.” My mouth dropped open and I thanked them immediately.
This week in Public Speaking we had to get up and say our greatest achievements in life. We then took notes in class and got let out early two days in a row. In Mass media, we have been learning about the topics in Chapter 1. We have been sharing current events we have read in the newspaper aloud and discussing them. Tomorrow is July 4th and I am excited to attend the Fourth Fest and see how State College celebrates.
