MMS 3- Warner Bros. Proposes Building Tramway to Hollywood Sign

I read an article called “Warner Bros. Proposes Building Tramway to Hollywood Sign” by Dave Mcnary. Warner Bros. drew up a proposal to build an aerial tramway from its Burbank lot to the Hollywood sign. The studio said they will pay the estimated $100 million for the project. This will include a visitor center near the sign also. The length of the tramway would be more than a mile long and last six minutes each way. Warner Bros. stated Tuesday that the Hollywood Sign is “an important historic and globally recognized landmark fir the city of Los Angeles.”

However, there are some negative effects to this idea. For example, there can be an increase in heavy traffic in residential areas nearby. There are also safety concerns. Warner Bros states, “The concept of an aerial tram as a solution is one that been suggested in the past and was most recently highlighted as a potential solution in the comprehensive strategies report by Dixon Resources Unlimited.” The studio said its proposal will not cost taxpayers any money, and that it will reduce street congestion, improve safety and ease neighborhood frustrations.

The Skyway will create a unique, first-class educational experience. Warner Bros said that given how close their lot is to the north side of the Hollywood sign, they feel that they will be causing the least impact on the environment—protecting and preserving Griffith Park and the residential neighborhoods surrounding them. The studio feels that it can be built and operated at no cost to the taxpayers and that it will provide public benefit to the City of LA and its residents.

The studio also noticed that they have one of the shortest and most direct routes to the back of the Hollywood sign since their property is on Forest Lawn Drive. Warner Bros stated, “We are in the early stages of work on this project and we are embarking on a ‘listening tour’ of city departments, neighborhood residents and environmental groups. We want feedback from a diverse cross-section of stakeholders as a part of the design process.” There has been no direct timeline for installing the project. The project would have to undergo an environmental impact report and earn approval from the Los Angeles City Council.

This article stood out to me because last year I visited the Warner Bros. lot at Universal Studios. I was mesmerized by the entire lot because many famous movies took place there. I feel that adding an aerial tramway directly to the Hollywood sign would be very cool, easy, and efficient. I would want to take a trip to ride it. I feel that it will have a positive impact overall. I hope that this tramway will be built in the near future.
