Practice Problems and Exercises
Week 1: CAD Practice
Week 1 assignments include an introduction to CATIA-V5 and an overview of basic tools.
Week 2: CAD Practice
Week 2 assignments include practice using sketcher tools and using the Part Design.
Week 3: Drafting
Week 3 assignments include an introduction to drafting in CATIA-V5 creating sheets, multiple views, text, and dimensions.
Week 4: Assembly Design
Week 4 included an in-class demonstration of the Assembly workbench and creating complex and multiple sketch parts. There were no deliverables for this week.
Week 5: Generative Shape Design
Week 5 assignments include generative shape design by creating surface geometries, using the Sweep tools, and using the Wireframe workbench.
Week 6: DMU Navigator and Real Time Rendering
Week 6 assingments include an introduction to the DMU navigator and real time rendering. This was completed by downloading a pre-existing assembly file.
Week 7: Parametric Design
Week 7 assingments include an introduction to parametric designs using constraints and other tools.
Week 8: Advanced CATIA Assignment
The advanced CATIA assignment is modeling the complex shapes of a computer mouse and teapot.
Week 9: FEA Assignment
Week 9 assignments include the analysis of a bent rod, axial loaded block with stress concentration, and associated practice problems.
Week 10: FEA Assignment
Week 10 assignements include deformation of an I-beam under self weight, C-clamp deformation with enforced displacements, and associated practice problems
Week 11: FEA Assignment
Week 11 assignments include FEA modeling of a bent rod with beam elements, bending of a notched specimen, and associated practice problems.
Week 12: FEA Assignment
Week 12 assignments include modeling mismatch in shell thickness and surface meshing, FEA model of bearing shaft assembly, and associated practice problems.
Week 13: FEA Assignment
Week 13 assignments include the analysis of a tensile specimen as an assembly, analysis of a fastened assembly, and associated practice problems.
