History of a Public Controversy Ideas
The two ideas I have for the History of a Public Controversy project is Minimum Wage and Student Loan Debt. For the first idea, minimum wage is a clear controversial issue nowadays due to the difficult nature of the economy for many citizens, with rising costs due to inflation, many people suggest raising minimum wage. However, for others, the act of doing thus would cause more harm then good.
The second idea I have is regarding student loan debt, and specifically federal support for student debt. For some, this issue seems clear, support the students and the future of our country and remove the financial barrier in regards to entry to college, allowing all students to have a fair chance. However, this does not account for the nuanced factors of college admissions nowadays, and also how it may disproportionally affect certain members of the population.

I really like the idea of minimum wage for the controversial topics project. There is a lot of research we can do to see how raising the minimum wage would affect the economy. We can also compare prices now to when the countrywide minimum wage was set and see how they compare.
I completely agree with both of these ideas as topics. Minimum wage is definitely a topic that has been a public controversy for a very long time. Student loan debt is another HUGE topic of controversy, and I say this as someone with FAFSA loans.
I think student debt is something that directly effects every one of us and therefore has a lot of importance as an American controversy. That being said, minimum wage also has clear significance to us as students and makes for a great controversy as another very American debate.
It seems like money is always a part of controversy, the two you chose are both very connected, since with a higher minimum wage would lead to less college debt.
For your TedTalk, I really appreciated how deep you delved into the history of Spring Break. I think Ancient Greece and ideologies during that time was a really strong choice for a background for how those ideas evolved into the modern day break as we know it.
