Production Work Report 8

After having my last meeting of the semester with my advisor, I was given some very insightful feedback to better improve my project for final submission. He mentioned my story flow was fluent, the illustrations looked great, and there are indicators for the user/player on which object(s) they should click or tap on in each panel. The style is also consistent across the illustrations as well. One major change I implemented was removing panel #2 that originally explained the overall concept of the story and replacing it with a few panels introducing Oreo the cat as well as explaining the point of the story and how to navigate through it simpler for children to understand, who are my general audience for this project. Here is what I came up with in lieu of replacing the original “instructions” panel:

Additionally, I made changes for the panels that take place before the beach sequence, replacing the sand around the sidewalk, recycle bin, and compost bin with grass to make the transition from picking up litter on the sidewalk to Oreo chasing the frisbee towards the beach flow better. The changes made to these panels only deal with the ground being changed, nothing else:

I was also told to make some tweaks to the dialogue/text to make it easier for children to follow and understand. I am currently working on those changes which will be shown in the final prototyped version. I am also finishing linking the pages together in Invision. The objects with the glow indicate where the user/player clicks/taps to progress to the next panel in the sequence. I am also in the process of incorporating back arrows in each panel but making them small so they are not too distracting for the viewer. I plan to have that finished by Monday of this week.

During the meeting, it was encouraged that I should attempt a user experience trial run with a younger child to get an idea on how they could navigate through the comic panels. This would give me some great feedback to work with, as well as something I could add to my design document for the project. Overall, I have a lot of confidence with this project as I have put so much time and effort into it. Having to edit each panel in Photoshop and add back arrows as well as tweaked dialogue is a daunting process, but everything will flow together more fluently in the end result. The goal is to make this comic story as engaging and interactive as possible, even with the limited prototype capabilities that InVision offers, depending on the scope of the project of course.

Everything will be ready and complete for the final submission; I just have to add a few more things such as the arrows I mentioned above, as well as proofreading and editing the text wherever means necessary throughout the story. I am very excited to have been a part of this journey, and I look forward to the awesome plan God has for my life once I graduate!
