Longwood Gardens

Longwood Gardens is an indoor/outdoor garden located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. My mom’s work would always go there around the holidays, so I have been there numerous times. Each time, the plants and scenery on display are changed, making each visit unique and worthwhile.

Tickets are 13 dollars for youth and 25 dollars for adults, and while this may be a little expensive, trust me it is worth it. More information regarding reserving times and purchasing tickets can be found here.

The most recent time I was there was a few years ago during the holidays. I went on with some friends via a school trip and the displays were amazing. They always have something going on to fit the season, but I highly recommend visiting during the holidays.

The image above is of my friend and I in front of one of the indoor displays. In the background, you can see lots of plants and trees. The indoor experience provides an escape from the weather outside, while still being surrounded by nature.

One of my favorite outdoor displays was the light up trees everywhere. The images above show the same display but with different lighting effects. I absolutely loved the trees lining the central tree being lit up by the red lights. The simplicity, yet beautiful lights showcase all that nature has to offer.

While the holiday display is my favorite, Longwood Gardens offers several events throughout the years. When I was younger, they had 5 or 6 interesting treehouses for us to climb up. I believe two of them still remain to be seen and possibly climbed up!

A suggested path with connected audio story-telling can be accessed here. You can listen to the audio version at home to hear about Longwood Gardens, or listen to the audio to hear the story and key features the site has to offer. The current route is featuring the winter garden displays.

They also offer music performances, tours, classes/workshops and events for families and kids. Some current classes they offer include floral design, orchid inspired jewelry and identifying winter plants. Upcoming events for kids include cooking with natural ingredients, identifying conifers, puzzles and art activities. More information on all the events they provide can be viewed here.

Keep an eye on the events because new ones are always being added, possibly of interest to you, I always come out of Longwood Gardens feeling relaxed, calm and grateful for what nature has to offer. Nature has the ability to release stress, ease tensions and calm your mind and Longwood Gardens is one great option to do so.
