Empty Nest Syndrome

In today’s society, parents from all over have to deal with the struggle of their kids going off to school. They begin to feel something known as “empty nest syndrome”. This is when parents or guardians experience a feeling of grief or loneliness. I am the youngest child in my family, so my mom is beginning to feel this with me. She can relate to hundreds of thousands of moms all over the country. Her input on how she feels about all of her kids leaving is now officially relevant because she has a true “empty nest”. She has established ethos with anyone she talks to on the subject because of her own personal experiences that she has gone through. In addition, she also could have pathos with an audience because she is a single mother of three that finally has no one to take care of. All of her children are gone from her “nest” and she is struggling with how to deal with it. However, this concept also goes both ways. Since I am currently in school, I have established ethos with any of my peers. If I am talking to someone moving in for fall semester or still taking college tours, I can give them my two cents about my own personal experiences. Having lived through experiences allows you to assert your opinion on the basis that you know what you’re talking about.

  1. This is very relatable. I also think that it’s cool that you are showing rhetoric through everyday life and interactions.
