RCL3: Persuasive Commercial (Thai Fan advertisment)

Hello, for this post I will introduce you to a very interesting, appealing, and hilarious commercial that was made in Thailand.

This commercial is advertising people to buy a fan of a specific brand. But unlike any other ads, this advertisement is hilarious and compelling that even people who had no thoughts of buying are convinced.

The background of the commercial is during the dynasty period. The king in the throne is sweating from the hot weather of Thailand. He orders his servant to fan him faster to cool off the heat. However, even the servant (or a robot) has broken down. So the King askes his counsel what he should do, then the counsel suggests him a fan (which they are advertising). When the council turned the fan at the highest level, the fan wind was too strong; the king flew away. And later the narrator mentions that the fan became bigger and faster.

With only a few words and senes, the commercial already described what the advertisement is about. The king is in a situation that he needs a fan, merely showing that the king needs a fan. And as the old fan (or the servant) is broken, he askes his counsel for any other options. By this, it gives a natural transition to introduce the new fan. And as the council turned the fan, the king flew away because the fan was too powerful. It briefly shows that the fan is strong enough to make a human fly away, so there is no lack of using this fan.

In 30 seconds, it already advertised the purpose of the commercial. And as it is so hilarious and funny, the viewers enjoy watching it and somehow convinced to buy the fan, even though they don’t need it. Also from the comments from youtube, most of the comments are that they would love to buy the product.

The commercial is exaggerated in many ways and gives doubt whether the product is useful as much as it is shown in the ad, but it provides joy rather than being serious, putting less pressure on the customers to buy the product. I also enjoyed the commercial and asked my parents whether we could buy the fan. And as in another commercial says that the company was making a fan for 20 years, it also gave me trust in the product.

This commercial has a strong appeal to the customers with less amount of words. Giving joy and less pressure, it made people enjoy the commercial and naturally convince then to buy the product. It proves that it is a great persuasive commercial and I hope other commercials can be this appealing.
