About
Alison M. Franklin has a PhD in soil science and biogeochemistry from The Pennsylvania State University. Her Ph.D. work focused on the impacts of spray irrigation with wastewater treatment plant effluent on agricultural lands. Specifically, analysis includes measuring the occurrence of antibiotics and antibiotic resistant bacteria as well as toxicological impacts in impacted soil and water systems.
The study system for this research is The Living Filter at Penn State, where wastewater treatment plant effluent is spray irrigated on agricultural, grassed and forested lands. This site has been in full operation since the early 1980’s and provides information about the long-term impacts of spray irrigation with effluent.
Alison currently works in the Watson Soil Water Quality Lab at Penn State. The Watson Lab focuses on emerging contaminants as well as other chemicals that may affect water quality.
In her spare time, Alison is also an Independent Consultant with Perfectly Posh, a company that makes personal care pampering products with natural ingredients made in the U.S. Alison supports and promotes these products because they not only improve your skin, but are better for the environment (i.e. less man-made chemical pollution from personal care products in the environment). Follow her EcoPosh with Ali Facebook page for product information, updates, and specials. Visit her Perfectly Posh website to see the assortment of products offered and to place an order. All orders are supporting Alison’s mission to protect the environment and promote awareness of emerging contaminants.
