Research Poster

The purpose of this poster was to present it at a poster symposium after finishing an undergraduate research program I participated in here at Penn State. The research topic was on “Interfacial Mass Transfer in Turbulent Flow”. My part in that project was to help the graduate student in charge of the project build an experimental set-up.

The poster is an excellent example of how graphs and other illustrations should be used in technical writing. For instance, figure 1 is a graph that shows the relationship between the Damkolher number and Stokes number. The graph supports the text before it clearly and concisely. There’s some overlap between the graph and the text, but not all of the graph information (such as exact numbers for the measurements) is in the text. Therefore, the graph is supplemental to the text.

The scientific poster genre is widespread in academia, and everyone will run into it eventually. Since I intend to go to graduate school, this project was of great value to me and added a useful skill to my toolbox.
