Why should I join Lion Ambassadors?
Being in the classroom is only a fraction of what you learn in your college experience! You can learn a lot from not only being in our organization, but lots of others! After graduating a member of our organization, members possess social, teamwork, leadership skills that employers seek for when they graduate from the University. Many of our members have very diverse majors such as education, business, nursing, engineering, and psychology. So there is no reason you should have not to JOIN in our organization!
What is the time commitment?
Lion Ambassadors typically give one tour a week (usually about 30 minutes) in addition to any special events or tours. Members also meet twice a week, once in the general meeting and once in their house meeting. But really.. it’s what you make out of it.
Are Lion Ambassadors paid?
Yes, we get paid! Not in monetary units though. We get paid with lifelong friends, amazing experiences, and countless memories. It’s worth it though; trust us!
What is some Lion Ambassador lingo that I should know?
We say ‘residence halls’ instead of ‘dorms’. We also like to call new students entering college as ‘first-year’ students instead of freshmen and ‘University Park’ instead of ‘UP’ or ‘main’. You can be on your second year of college and still be a freshman! We like to identify ourselves as ‘LAMBs’ because Lion Ambassadors. If you’d like to know more interesting lingo we use, send an application in!
Can I apply as a first-year?
Of course you can! A lot of our current Lion Ambassadors entered the organization during their first semester of college. It’s a great experience!
Can I still be in other clubs/organizations even if I already hold membership from the Lion Ambassadors?
Heck yeah! What’s stopping you? A lot of our current members hold positions or memberships in other clubs and organizations. But to make sure you stay in the organization, we have set minimum requirements for our membership. If you are in other clubs and organizations, don’t forget about your Lion Ambassadors duties!
How long is the interview process?
A typical interview lasts between 15 to 20 minutes. It really depends on your answers too! Be sure to arrive early for your scheduled interview. And remember, be yourself!
What should I wear to an interview?
Be in business casual attire. Ditch the shorts and the slippers! For more information about business casual attire, visit the Career Services Offices on the second floor of the Slep Student Center. You may borrow your attire for free!
How often are tours given?
We like to work around your academic schedule because academics should be our first priority! Each member should conduct at least one tour every week. There are multiple times for tour that you can schedule throughout the week.
How will I be trained to give tours?
We provide a comprehensive training for our new members. This is spearheaded by our Historian. We make sure you’re all set before you show our visitors the beauty of our awesome campus!
Do you have an office on campus?
Unfortunately, we do not. However, the Admissions Office somehow serves like our ‘headquarters’. Since we are an affiliate organization of the said office, we gather there before events, sign in and out before tours in the office, and meet with our Advisor in the Admissions Office!
How often do Lion Ambassadors meet?
We have a general meeting every week. We can’t tell you the time, date, and place though.. Did you even apply yet?! Well, aside from being part of the same (amazing) organization, we’re also friends! A bunch of us like to make spontaneous trips to the Creamery, to the movies, or other fun places out there. Each ‘house’ also has their own individual meetings throughout the week.
What events do you organize on and off-campus?
We organize a lot of events! We have so many events on campus as well as our presence off campus goes unnoticed as well. In the past, we have worked with the Central PA Humane Society, Mountain Lion Backpack program, and various local non-profits as well!
