Thoreau Cabin

By Marina Scipioni

The Thoreau Cabin is a replica of the cabin American writer Henry David Thoreau built and lived in for approximately two years while exploring self-sufficiency and living simple. The replica was built by 16 English and Environmental Studies students who were reading Thoreau’s 1854 book “Walden” for their class, in which he details the experience of his time in the cabin. The building was constructed over the course of four days, and now sits at the entry to Seminar Forest across from campus.
