Last year’s Women’s Bowling Team: (first row) Sierra Snigier, Claudia Ochoa (second row) Nicole Watt, Clara Good, Rylee Duck.

While bowling is still an emerging sport in college athletics, having only been founded in 2004, Penn State Altoona’s women’s team is preparing to start its eighth season this year and is looking for people interested in playing.

The team is had a general interest meeting Monday but are still encouraging anyone interested, no matter the skill level, to come and learn more about the team.

The team competes from October to March and generally practices 2-3 times a week for a few hours at a time. Practices are held in the evenings at Holiday Bowl, about a 15 minute drive from campus, so some players may need to carpool with others if they do not have their own mode of transportation.

“I don’t want anyone to be discouraged if they can’t drive themselves,” said Athletics Director Brent Baird. “We’ve been doing this a few years now with several sports where players sometimes need to get rides from their teammates. There’s never been a problem with it.”

Those who are interested in joining the Women’s Bowling team should contact Brent Baird at rzb3@psu.edu or call his office at (814) 949-5556.
