Best of the Rest: Athletes Named Week 6

Four student-athletes from Penn State Altoona were nominated for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week. Although they were not selected for the week of Oct. 1-7, their accomplishments for Penn State Altoona’s sports programs are worth mentioning. Shown are (from left): Kierra Irwin, Kelsey Bristol, Riley Barrett, and Luke Hoffnagle.

Women’s Soccer – Defensive: Goalkeeper Riley Barrett had a strong week for the Lady Lions. Barrett allowed just one goal in two games, and posted a 1-0-1 record. She made 13 saves, and posted a .929 save percentage.

 

 

 

Women’s Soccer – Offensive: Midfielder Kierra Irwin scored the lone goal against Mount Aloysius on Oct. 3 to seal a tie of 1-1. Irwin took six shots, including one shot on goal. She scored another goal, giving the Lady Lions a 1-0 win over Medaille on Oct. 7. In this game, Irwin totaled three shots, with one shot on goal.

 

 

Women’s Volleyball: In five matches last week, senior Kelsey Bristol totaled 35 kills, 37 points, and 57 digs. Bristol also had seven assists and two aces.

 

 

Men’s Golf: Sophomore Luke Hoffnagle shot a two-day total of 157 in the AMCC championship. Hoffnagle came in seventh place out of 44 golfers. The Lions came in fourth overall.
