Upcoming Horror Games For October

By Carlos Lee

The month of October calls for anything to become a little more spooky. Most of us get a laugh from a good scary movie or a haunted house attraction, but video games can be more intense. Playing a good game alone in a dark room with a pair of headphones on can really get the blood pumping. Here’s a list of upcoming games coming out near Halloween.

Scorn is a terrifyingly “fleshy” first-person shooter coming out before the end of October. The atmosphere is tight and complex with an array of distorted enemies that react to you. The game focuses more on building a world that makes you uncomfortable. With no cutscenes and lack of a soundtrack, this game should be a top priority for anyone seeking a new experience.

Fans of the Walking Dead series will appreciate this fresh new take from Overkill studios coming Nov. 6.. Simply named “Overkill’s The Walking Dead,” it boasts fine details in weapon conditions and looting. Set in the world of the Walking Dead, players have a four-player co-op with individual characters having separate skills from the rest. While defending your base, scavenging and survival will be your main objective against large groups of zombies.

The hiding and surviving mechanic has been a staple in horror games. However, “Hide Or Die” takes this a step further with a horror battle royale twist. Players will spawn in a bunker with tasks that push away the darkness while a designated hunter will try to stop you. Worlds are procedurally generated and detailed, changing how players approach certain situations. An open beta is available now with the release set before the end of October.

Those familiar with the Lovecraft genre will want to look for the remastered classic “Call of Cthulhu.” Originally released in 2006, the game is deeply involved in the cosmic unknowns that are somber and intense. As an alcoholic investigator, you will have to run and hide while controlling your own sanity meter. The game has long emphasized story alongside terrifying, extraterrestrial creatures.
