Best of the Rest: Athletes Named Week 9

Two student-athletes from Penn State Altoona were nominated for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week. Although they were not selected this week, their accomplishments for Penn State Altoona’s sports programs are worth mentioning. Shown are (from left): Alexis Cannistraci and Jessica Stevens.

 

Women’s Tennis- Freshman Jessica Stevens dominated to a 13-0 record in No. 1 singles matches with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the Oct. 27 AMCC Tournament semifinal match against Mount Aloysius in Erie, Pa. This win extends the program’s singles record to 13-0 in a single season. For her performance of the season she was recently named AMCC Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and first team All-Conference in No.1 singles.

 

 

Women’s Volleyball-Freshman Alexis Cannistraci had a huge week at the net, contributing to a 1-1 week for the Lady Lions. Cannistraci posted 15 kills, five total blocks, and 18 points. The Lady Lions ended their season with a 5-4 AMCC record, and 8-18 overall.
