Hey there, fellow Penn State Altoona students. I’ve been trying out some different products for the last few months to see how well they worked on the skin. These tips range from acne treatments, to acne scarring, to even a better base to have before applying makeup. I hope you are able to find some of them helpful or beneficial to your routines.

Acne Treatments:

Acne is a tough war to fight, it happens to all of us, and can happen at all ages. I myself have dealt with acne for years and I kind of have experience for what works well and what doesn’t work. Although everyone’s skin is unique in many different ways, it’s not always guaranteed that the treatments will work. However, after trying the products, you might discover that they work for you. Even if you don’t have problematic skin, this routine still does wonders leaving your skin to be glowy. I added the links to all the products used for each of the steps. Here’s what works for me.

What to do and use:

  1. Wash.

It’s important to wash your face in the morning and night. This is critical because as you go about your day or night, dirt and oil build up on your face which can clog your pores leading to even more breakouts. One face wash I love using is the Cetaphil daily cleanser.  It’s simple, has no smell, and is great for all skin types, even sensitive. I usually wash with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean face towel.

              2. Toner.

I recommend using a toner after washing your face. It gets off excessive dirt and oil that didn’t get entirely off from when you washed your face.  There are two toners that I use, one for the morning and one at night. The one I usually use in the morning is Dickensons witch hazel. This is good for all skin types. If you don’t have problematic skin this is still a very good daily toner to use for day and night. However, if your skin is more on the problematic side, at night you can use the stridex pads, which helps prevent acne.             3. Moisturizer.

Moisturize. Moisturize. Moisturize. I can’t tell you how important it is for you to moisturize. Moisturizer helps the skin to rejuvenate. The moisturizer I use is the Clinque. They have three different types based off your skin type. Since this one is a bit pricey I’ve also found another good one called Ponds that I also use.

          4. Sunscreen

Another step to go the extra mile is sunscreen. It can help prevent sun damage as we age. Although the sunscreen I use is a bit pricey I have found another alternative. The more expensive one is the Chanel sunscreen, and the more price-friendly one is called Neutrogena

            5. Acids and Oils.

Now this is an important step if you are concerned about acne scarring. This should be done at night after moisturizing. I use one face acid and one face oil. I’ve been using this combo for the last nine months and I’ve seen significant changes regarding my acne scarring. I use the Ordinary 10 percent lactic acid + Ha 2 percent. I put three drops on my face, one on each cheek, one on the forehead, and lightly rub it into my skin. Next, I use rosehip seed oil using the same technique as stated above.

           6. Overnight acne treatments.

Sometimes we all get those annoying pimples that emerge out of nowhere. I have a secret to kill it. I use the Mario Badescu drying lotion. I apply this by using a cotton swab, dipping it into the bottle, and dabbing it on to the problem area. Be careful if applying this near the eye area, for it could burn intensely. And when you wake up in the morning, wash off the area and see your zit be gone!
