Family weekend at Penn State Altoona always brings a sense of home to the students and families that attend. This gives the parents of the students a glimpse into what college life is for their kids. With a list of events and activities, the campus was alive, October 18th through the 20th with parents and students everywhere. Interviews with participants showed what their particular plan was for parents’ weekend was and how the students and parents would enjoy their time together.

To begin, The Penn State  Altoona campus kicked off parents’ weekend with a list of various activities. This ranged from pottery classes to a watch-party of the PSU vs. USC football game. Parents also were able to walk around the campus and their kids showed them how they have acclimated to college life, and where all their money has gone.

When interviewed, several students and families were happy to talk about what they like about the campus.

“I enjoy the atmosphere of our campus here; it is almost like a private oasis in the Altoona area.” Said RJ, a business major from Virginia.  This answer was similar to many of the other answers to this question, agreeable because the Penn State Altoona campus sits in a quieter area of Altoona around a large pond with beautiful scenery.

“My favorite aspect would be the size of the campus and classes. With the campus being smaller, it is easier to make friends and stay on track with your work because the relationships you make are more unique than they would be on a larger campus.” Said Ty, an economics major from North Carolina

As stated before, the family weekend offered many events for the parents and students to attend. “We are planning to attend the pottery lessons and hopefully the pride parade if we get the chance.” Said RJ and also adding that his family may attempt axe throwing at Slingers Throw House in town.

In conclusion, family weekend at Altoona provided a chance to connect with their kids and the chance to show them how their college life is going. Many smiling faces were seen, and many hugs were given. The families that came to visit seemed happy with what they saw, and both the students and their families are excited for what lies ahead in the future.
