It has been quite the season for Penn State Altoona’s golf team as they recently earned the title of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) champions. Leading the charge was Peter Nusbaum, a junior who reflected on the team and his personal experiences during this season.
“This season was memorable,” Nusbaum said. “Winning the AMCC was a huge accomplishment, and it really showcased the hard work we’ve put in.”
The golf team’s performance was tested, as they faced tough competition and emerged as the conference champions. This win marked a significant milestone for the program, which has been steadily improving over the years. At the end of the season, Penn State Altoona’s golf ranked second out of all AMCC institutions.
For Nusbaum, the season was filled with personal highlights.
“My best moment was definitely being named as AMCC’s men’s golfer of the week,” he said, which was his fourth overall during his collegiate career. However, the season did not come without challenges. Balancing academics and athletics were tough, but he credits his teammates and coach for keeping him motivated.
Team dynamics played a crucial role in the season’s success.
“The chemistry on our team is unmatched,” Nusbaum said. “We push each other to be better every day, and that is what keeps us going.”
He also highlighted the influence of their coach, Tom Koehle, who provided guidance and support throughout the season.
“Our coach always knows what to say to keep us focused, whether we’re on the course or preparing for a big match,” Nusbaum said.
Looking ahead, Nusbaum is excited for what’s to come.
“Coming up in the spring, we are competing in the Pennsylvania Classic,” he said. The team is also setting their sights on defending their AMCC title next season and performing even better at the next competitions.
For aspiring golfers, he offered some advice: “Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Every shot is a learning experience.”
With their AMCC championship win, Nusbaum and his teammates Penn State are looking to the future, and remain focused on achieving even greater success in the coming spring competitions.
