Five student-athletes from Penn State Altoona were nominated for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week. Although they were not selected this week, their accomplishments for Penn State Altoona’s sports programs are worth mentioning.

 

Mens Golf: Sophomore Jimmy Gillespie had the Lions’ best score of the day in the La Roche Invitational on Sept. 18. Gillespie shot 81 on the par 71 course, tying 18th out of 56 individuals.

 

 

 

Women’s Volleyball: Senior Kelsey Bristol had a successful weekend for Penn State Altoona. Bristol helped her team go 1-1 on Sept. 22, the first AMCC matches of the season with 32 kills, 31 digs, and six aces. Bristol swung at a .215 clip and had 38.5 points.

 

 

Women’s Soccer- Offensive: Freshman Sadie McConnell scored two goals, including the game-winner, on Sept. 19 for a 4-1 win over Juniata. McConnell then added three shots on goal for a total of five shots on Juniata. She then added three more shots on goal in Saturday afternoon’s tight 1-0 loss at AMCC opponent D’Youville on Sept. 22.

 

 

Women’s Soccer- Defensive: Senior goalkeeper Sydney Emershaw totaled a season-high nine saves and allowed one goal to seal the victory in a 4-1 win over non-conference opponent Juniata on Sept. 19. Emershaw then made one save and allowed one goal in a close 1-0 loss at AMCC opponent D’Youville on Sept. 22.

 

 

 

Womens Tennis: Freshman Jessica Stevens improved to a 7-0 record in No. 1 singles on the season. Stevens posted a 6-3, 6-4 win in No. 1 singles over defending AMCC champion Franciscan University on Sept. 21. Stevens then collected singles and doubles victories over PS-Behrend on Sept. 22.
