Engineering Intern – Standards

 Engineering Student Interns are considered to be an integral part of the McLanahan Engineering staff and are provided with tasks that are both technically challenging and educationally stimulating. Under the guidance of the senior engineering staff, the student will assist the Technical Writer with the completion of product manuals across all product lines. Duties to include, but not limited to 1) Organizing existing manual versions and revision levels, 2) Developing rendered images from 3D CAD models for inclusion in various I.O.M. manual Sections, 3) Creating and/or modifying I.O.M. documents under the direction of the Technical Writer, 4) Consolidate manual information for use in foreign language translations.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow direction provided by Director of Engineering.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to, and enforcing, all safety procedures and policies inside and outside the facility, including use of personal protective and McLanahan equipment as required.
  • Represent McLanahan Corporation in a positive manner both internally and externally while adhering to the organization’s core values.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, management, customers, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Create and revise assembly and detailed fabrication drawings as required, consistent with McLanahan standard practices, utilizing Autodesk Inventor.
  • Participate in engineering and general design reviews as required.
  • Interact with vendors concerning parts they supply or propose to supply.
  • Perform data entry and data manipulation within corporate ERP database.
  • Keep supervisor advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments.

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in an Engineering or Engineering-Technology curriculum at an accredited university.
  • Sophomore class or later.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Proficiency with 3D modeling tools is required, Autocad 2010 (or later) is expected as a minimum, Autodesk Inventor (or other 3D packages) is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), experience with Adobe Acrobat and graphics programs (CorelDRAW or Adobe CS) is a plus.
  • Aware of manufacturing processes such as casting, fabrication and machining.
  • Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills.
