Fair Dermody Consulting Engineers (FDCE) is hiring an experienced Railroad Bridge Engineer, to work from their laid-back, dog-friendly Portland Maine office.

Requirements of the Railroad Bridge Engineer:

  • BS in Civil Engineering with a structural engineering emphasis from an ABET/EAC-accredited program.
  • PE License in any state.
  • Minimum 6 years of railroad structural engineering experience.
  • Ability to perform complex analysis and design of railroad structures (concrete, steel, timber).
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship. FDCE is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
  • Extensive knowledge of railroad bridge rehabilitation and design practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of AREMA and industry standards.
  • Ability to independently evaluate, select, and adapt standard engineering techniques.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD LT, and RISA 3D (other structural analysis software will be accepted).
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills. Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with co-workers, clients, contractors, agencies, and the public.
  • Must be willing to relocate or commute to our office in Portland, Maine.
  • Must be willing to travel to project/work sites as necessary (less than 15% of time expected). Work is primarily in the Eastern US and most travel will include 1-2 overnights.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds; ability to work at heights; ability to navigate into confined spaces as necessary.

Responsibilities of the Railroad Bridge Engineer:

  • Manage multiple small to medium railroad bridge engineering projects ensuring appropriate resource management to complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Ability to perform on-site inspections, gather field measurements, classify defects, and determine required repairs.
  • Interpret inspection reports and historic plans for scope and repair development.
  • Develop project scope, schedule, budget estimates, and proposals.

Job Description
To support our regional business objectives and development, we are now looking to grow our
delivery capability and technical knowledge base by recruiting a Solutions Engineer & Customer
Delivery Lead. This hybrid, hands-on role is focused on ensuring key customer projects are managed
professionally and in a disciplined manner whilst becoming a key technical resource to support
regional sales and bid activities. In addition, this role shall help drive product roadmap requirements
through an intimate knowledge of customer objectives and desired outcomes. Mid-term, this role
offers the successful candidate influence to develop Cordel’s wider delivery and technical capability

Main Purpose of Role
Initially, the main purpose of this role is to own customer success and become our project delivery
lead into a small number of key US customers. By the nature of our business, this requires a level of
technical ability and, ideally, an understanding of the rail industry. Subject matter-wise, the initial
focus will be heavily skewed towards our clearance management solutions. Over time the role will
extend to working closely with sales and the product team to provide technical competence and
delivery guidance and support for new initiatives for new and existing customers and solutions.

Responsibilities
● Taking end-to-end responsibility and ownership of regional service delivery, often with
respect to large customer projects
● Creation and ownership of overall project planning using a proven project methodology
● Ensuring projects are delivered to budget and revenues are realised in line with agreed

Minimum Requirements
● Multi-Year, proven experience in delivering projects across large corporate organisations on

development, integration, and deployment of project phases
● A demonstrable technical competence across a broad range of IT subjects, including data

The Kennametal manufacturing plant Bedford, PA currently has an opening for a Manufacturing Engineer supporting the Earth Cutting Tools (ECT) Business Unit. This position is responsible for all manufacturing engineering including welding, heat treating and Material Science Engineering needs, and other related manufacturing support.  This role will drive continuous improvement with cross-functional teams within and supporting the Bedford plant.  This position reports directly to the Site Business Director.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate as the subject matter lead for Material Science Engineering in support of welding, heat treat and other manufacturing areas.
  • Provide on-site assistance for troubleshooting as needed during hours of operation and/or during maintenance shutdowns.
  • Lead process improvements and capital project implementation.  Effectively support Management of Change to minimize EHS risks and manufacturing disruptions. Proactively develop project plans and budgets, select and manage teams, conduct progress reviews, implement corrective actions, and ensure compliance with EHS guidelines. Meet budget, timeline and project objectives.  Regularly provide progress updates.
  • Develop and transition new and improved processes to manufacturing.  Responsible to prepare procedures, training plans and manufacturing enabling documentation. Provide on-site assistance for troubleshooting, quality and throughput improvements, productivity improvements and capital projects.
  • Work with Corporate Sourcing, Finance and outside vendors to specify, procure, effectively install, start-up and complete acceptance testing of capital equipment. Develop functional specifications and evaluate alternatives.  Partner with other manufacturing locations and relevant Corporate functional teams to ensure appropriate technology/process standardization is considered.
  • Lead projects and improvement tasks using Lean and Six Sigma™ continuous improvement tools on the manufacturing floor.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Materials Management and Finance teams to ensure that BOMs and routings accurately reflect product manufacturing steps, and are optimized to improve cost-effectiveness, quality, and efficiency.  Responsible for system updates, management of setup sheets and associated documentation.
  • Work in conjunction with Product Engineering, Sourcing and Product Management to assure timely delivery of new product requests and reviews.
  • Proactively contribute to the achievement of operations KPI goals of safety, quality, customer satisfaction, employee engagement and financial performance.  Ensure compliance with established quality standards.
  • Continuously improve knowledge in areas of responsibility by proactively staying aware of technology trends, participating in training/webinars and networking with subject matter experts.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of BS Engineering.  Material Science and Engineering preferred.
  • 2 years or more of experience working in batch and discrete component manufacturing environments.  Experience in welding, heat treating, and material analysis is preferred.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement and problem-solving skills, with experience delivering sustainable improvements with Lean and Six Sigma™ tools.
  • Experience troubleshooting, implementing and sustaining manufacturing processes and systems related to areas of responsibility.
  • Experience executing capital projects to support replacement, modernization and/or new process implementation to achieve operational goals.
  • Strong positive interpersonal and hands-on problem-solving skills, and experience working effectively with cross-functional teams across all levels.
  • Prefer experience with process automation, PLC and robotics.  PLC programming, CNC programming experience.
  • AUTOCAD, NX CAD systems, 2D and 3D modeling, and CAD-CAM experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, set priorities, identify and resolve problems, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer literacy, including MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and MRP experience (SAP preferred).

ENSCO’s Applied Technology and Engineering (ATE) Division designs, develops and manufactures precision, high speed, real-time track inspection systems for the national and international railway market. We are seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer to join our service group, to provide installation, test, debug and repair of complex railway-vehicle-based electro-mechanical inertial and optical based data acquisition systems.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Field service, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of equipment on railway vehicles at various domestic and international customer sites, as well as in our facilities.
  • Installation, calibration and testing of track inspection systems on railway vehicles.
  • Assembly, test, debug and repair of electronic circuit boards, cables, component chassis wiring, sensor assemblies and associated computer equipment.
  • Support design engineers in the assembly, test and debug of new products

Qualifications Required (Skills)

Bachelor’s degree with 2 (two) years of experience including interships or an Associates degree with 4 (four) years experience  in Mechatronics, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,
  • Understanding and troubleshooting of complex software-electro-mechanical systems, including both software and hardware functionality and interactions between the two.
  • Working independently at customer sites investigating, diagnosing, and resolving system problems.
  • Electro-Mechanical system level assembly, testing, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Performing data analysis to troubleshoot electro-mechanical data acquisition systems.
  • Testing, installing as well as remote and onsite servicing systems, containing sophisticated sub-assemblies including lasers, optics, data acquisition electronics, mechatronics, and high-performance computing hardware and software.
  • Effectively communicate with customers by telephone and in person to diagnose and resolve system problems.
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting cable diagrams, cable assembly drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Effectively use multi-meters, oscilloscopes, function generators and general laboratory test equipment for testing and troubleshooting equipment to the component level.
  • Proficiency with hand tools for assembly, installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical systems and components.
  • Able to climb a 15 foot high ladder to gain access to railroad vehicles.
  • Ability to work in tight spots: on, under and around rail vehicles
  • Willingness to work 12 hour shifts as necessary when on field assignments.
