The Wilbur K. Kraybill Advising Center/DUS staff provides New Student Orientation for all first year students. During this orientation, students learn about academic programs and life at the Penn State Altoona and schedule their first semester courses. The Advising Center also helps students deal with academic concerns, including deciding on educational goals, choosing a major, finding resources for academic help, and determining which office handles academic actions or procedures. Students may also choose the Division of Undergraduate Studies as a unit of enrollment for up to four full semesters to explore majors or to schedule classes that relate to new academic goals. The Advising Center is located in C112 Smith.
The Advising Center coordinates academic advising for all lower division students. It also supports the faculty advisors who serve the needs of our upper division students by providing advising tips and information on academic updates and policies of the University. Students are encouraged to utilize the advising Web site at altoona.psu.edu/advising before meeting with an academic advisor, so that they understand their responsibilities.
All students are assigned an academic advisor. Typically, advisor information for new students is available before the start of a semester. Advisor information can be found on the Student Center of LionPath. If no advisor is listed, please contact the advising center.
Regular appointments with your academic advisor are encouraged throughout the student’s academic career, and self-advising is not recommended. Ultimately, students are responsible for their own academic actions and decisions.
