Smartphones Improvements: positive and negative impact on society

In our contemporary world, smartphones are playing a very important role in people`s life.  It’s a technology that keeps on developing everyday to make the life of each person easer, but the real question is what do people feel about the raped development and impact of such a technology on the society? To answer these questions, I decided to analyze the impact of smartphones on our society in this blog especially since it will help me work on developing a smartphone design project that I will be involved in soon. Of course, both positive and negative impact exist and must be analyzed separately.

Redesigning smartphones resulted in a technology that can keep you busy for most of the day. In many cases, this can keep us oblivious to our surroundings. As Torilsmith says “everyday I witness someone trip on a crack in a sidewalk, almost tumble down flights of stairs, run into trees and have to slam on breaks…all as a result of being mesmerized by their smartphones” (Torilsmith, January 2012) Moreover, another negative impact of the improvement of smartphones is that it is changing the social norms of our lives. People are starting to be disrespectful without noticing that being busy on their smartphones is the reason. There are many things that show how redesigning and improving smartphones change our social norms. For example, teenagers now a days are texting all the times and adults are receiving work-related phone calls or emails during holydays. Once again, these are just certain negative impacts of smartphones on the society that we must keep in mind while working on improving that technology.

On the other hand, there is no doubt that as smartphones improve our lives get easier. As discussed by Brian X. Chen, technology writer and author of Always On: How the iPhone Unlocked the Anything, Now smartphones allow us to communicate with people easily, learn new things, use applications that make our life simpler, and even develop our businesses. Sending a tweet on Twitter or posting on someone`s wall on Facebook are examples of how smartphones help staying in touch and communicate with people. When it comes to learning new things, smartphones makes it much easier to find answers of any question at anytime and anywhere. Just Google it!  Also, there are many examples of smartphones applications that made our life simpler such as maps and weather apps. Finally, being able to receive emails is an illustration of how smartphones helped taking care of business and developing it. There are more and more benefits of improving and redesigning smartphones. So, it is important that smartphones companies keep the competition to improve this technology.

To conclude, smartphones are remarkably changing our world. Its development has both positive and negative impacts on the society. Also, since all new smartphones are improving in terms of specifications only, it is suggested that redesigning future smartphones must include reducing the negative impacts on the society and increasing the positive ones.

Be careful of “wordjunk.” “In our contemporary world, ..” Delete language like this. It is useless. And much texting and tweeting only contains “wordjunk.” What is happening when somone sends 50 text messages a day? What would happen if the next day they did not?

I think you need to be more systematic in your analysis before you start writing. There are at least 10 major funcitons of smartphones – and using it as a phone is not the most important one. You simply talk about two or three of them.
