Over the past semester of blog posts, I’ve tried to make this blog as aesthetically pleasing as possible, and I’ve spent a lot of time searching for high-quality images of food that go above and beyond. When someone visits my site, I want them to feel just as excited about food and nutrition as I am, and bold, captivating images help to get the job done. Little did I know, however, that this blog was going to throw me into a new world of food photography – something I always knew existed, but never really appreciated.
Everyone knows that a picture is worth a thousand words, and that’s still true even when it’s a photo of food. Food photography is truly a form of art that goes beyond capturing a delicious meal; it illustrates the hard work, artistry, and stories that go behind a dish, especially if that meal comes from generations of recipes and a rich history of culture.
On this site, the photography is merely for the entertainment and satisfaction of viewers and myself. Yet, in the real world, food photography is all around us; it’s plastered on billboards for fast food restaurants, posted in 2 seconds snapshots on Tiktok, published on professional food blogging websites, and more. In the digital world that we currently live in, food photography can make or break a business because it plays an integral role in online visibility, building trust with customers, and improving the overall customer experience.
Hence, it’s no surprise that people can make a living by taking photos and videos of food. These professionals are truly talented in image composition, lighting, color theory, and style. They spend their lives investing in high-quality camera equipment and educational courses in both photography and business. And, their ultimate goal is to take photos of real-life food that looks natural, accurate, and enticing.
Yet, it’s hard to comprehend how incredible their work is unless you’ve seen it. I invite you to take a look at this gallery of a few images that I’ve pulled together from a quick google search:
This short introduction barely scratches the surface of how wide-ranging and diverse the field is. There are numerous artistic styles, applications, and approaches to food photography, and I haven’t even said a word about video. Most food photography is not limited to still-life and motion is a big part of the business. That being said, I hope you learned something new today and enjoyed looking at the photos.
