Slides For Ted Talk

This is a friend of mine who was killed due to gun violence. I was going to use her story as an introduction as to how the media and crime have evolved over time, but I am not sure if I want to use her story yet.

Another aspect of my Ted Talk will discuss how the media has evolved, and how that has influenced crime. I plan to include snippets of newspaper headlines from relevant mass killings from the respective time frame. I also plan on showing different objects that were used to get information about mass shootings in each respective time frame.

Although some of the images I intend to include are rather eerie and uncomfortable, they are necessary for showing evolution as a whole. This image will be used to mark how the media’s involvement has shifted over time compared to other mass killings.

I do not have all of the images I want to include. If anyone has any suggestions for images, let me know!

  1. I love the idea of you using newspaper headlines to really dig into the idea that mass shootings aren’t portrayed correctly in today’s media and can seem at times that they aren’t even prevalent. The eerie and graphic images are fine by me. I have no issue with these being within your presentation and can only better your ted-talk as it makes it more realistic. Also the story about your friend, obviously your choice, however, I would include it because it shows that you personally have dealt with the grief that comes with losing someone due to gun violence. Making your story not only more sympathetic but also credible.

  2. While I totally understand the hesitancy to include your friend’s story, I think it would really add another layer of emotion to the discussion. If it’s something that you’re willing to talk about, I think it would be an impactful way to start off.
