A Look into Lovato’s Life: Revovery into a Healthy Lifestyle

Hello everyone and welcome back to the final passion blog post of 2021:( I cannot believe it is here already! Since my blogs throughout the entire year have been surrounded by loving yourself, body image, fitness and accomplishing a healthy lifestyle; I wanted to leave you with someone who has recently been inspiring to me; Demi Lovato. You might be asking why her and the reason behind it all is, my friends and I have come across her series free on youtube titled “Simply Complicated” and other shorter episodes like “Dancing with the Devil”. As a singer myself I have always seen her as one of the most powerful artists for many reasons. We know her as the major superstar who appears to have a wonderful life with amazing fans and friends. Her episodes on the other hand explains what goes on behind the scenes and it is certainly not what you would expect. Demi rose in fame at a very young age. This led to her having body image issues and self-esteem problems. She goes on to say in her documentary that being so young and having expectations put on you to look, feel, act and make music a certain way weighed heavy on her mental and physical health. Constantly feeling the need to compare and reach the success of other much older artists and this made her begin to fall apart at the age of 17. Demi not only was involved with serious drugs and alcohol but dealt with eating disorders throughout her entire life. She starved herself, made herself throw up and participated in excessive exercise. All of these things tear down your body, destroy the nutrients it needs to grow and prosper and more importantly can lead to negative health consequences. Most of you probably heard of Demi Lovato’s relapse in 2018 which led to her overdose. After this traumatic event she took time off to begin stepping foot in the right direction for good this time. Since this, Demi has been working on embracing her body. Depriving yourself from food and resorting to drugs and alcohol weighs very heavy on the human body and it can only take so much. Demi was lucky enough to be given a second chance and has been bettering herself ever since. Something so inspiring about her is that she is okay with sharing her traumatic life experiences with everyone around her. She wrote a ballad entitled “Anyone” written about her struggles and sang it for the first time after her overdose at the Grammy awards. It was incredible. She also wrote a song entitled “Dancing with the Devil” which was again about her personal life and issues.  Although she has been through so much, she has been making efforts for positive change. I wanted to talk about her today and use her as an example to show that everyone goes through struggles even celebrities who we think have it all. It is important to take care of yourself and love yourself before anyone else because that is how you will become the most successful version of yourself. Stay true to yourself always for you can do amazing things!

I have always loved Demi Lovato, she is inspiring in so many ways. Recently, she has been very inspiring for LGBTQ+ individuals, which I love.

For my paradigm shift last semester I wrote about the change in how we as a society view mental health and I wrote about demi and her struggles as well as how she has worked so hard to overcome them and help others who are feeling shamed about their mental health. Really great topic. I loved reading your blogs over the semester!
