Eras Tour Movie Review :)

October18

This is honestly becoming a Taylor fan account, but I should’ve expected that cause she is literally my mother, she’s not my mother :(, but today’s blog post will be on the movie Ms. Swift released this past weekend. The movie in question, Taylor Swift: The Era’s Tour, was a hit! I cried five times during the film, it was so beautiful I wish I had been there IRL.

Let us start off with the fact that this film was a blockbuster. According to People Magazine, the movie made over 92 million dollars at the box office. Talk about lightwork, I mean she released a concert film and it like boosted the economy within three days. Every day, she’s eating it up constantly, I have no other words to describe her.

Okay, now let’s dive into the film and just the beauty of it. It started off with the Lover era. Some context for my non-Swifites: Lover is Taylor’s album that really mostly consists of the most beautiful songs ever written ever. So she started off with a song off of Lover in the most sparkly bodysuit I’ve ever seen. It was completely bedazzled with pink and white gems and she just looked so f-ing gorgeous in it, pardon my French. The first time I cried was when she actually was singing Lover, one of the best love songs ever created; it’s next to Margaret by Lana, not even ten minutes in and I was already letting the tears stream down. Obviously, since it is an eras tour film, she shifted from album to album in the duration of the film. If you know anything about Taylor it’s that she has a flair for the dramatic and knows how to put on a show. For almost every performance she had a whole dance crew backing her, it was either that or she’s just legit telling a whole story while singing her songs. Watching her play out tolerate it, the song is on her evermore album, was mind-altering. It was exactly how I imagined it when I listened to the song, like Miss Girl knows her audience. Her transitions were so fun and cool to watch, I forgot what album she was going to do but when she was transitioning to it, she dove into the stage like she was diving into a body of water and I really thought it was very well-played out. They had the sound effects and everything, the effects made it look like she was really swimming under the stage. Also, her costume changes were everything!! Her Midnights bodysuit was literally jaw-dropping, I will be adding a photo for reference.

I know that it’s just concert film, but I don’t want to reveal any more cause I genuinely think you guys should give it a watch. The songs and the visuals were beautiful, 10/10 recommend.

Travis Swift and Taylor Kelce

October11

I do not apologize for how in love I am with this couple. Okay, I definitely am getting ahead of myself, but they’re just so cute. And honestly, I’m just glad Taylor was able to escape from the shackle of the British man. She was first spotted at the Arrowhead with Travis’ mom watching the game. All the Swifties immediately knew something was up, cause of course we do. Before this whole Arrowhead debacle, it was known that Travis had been to one of Taylor’s Era’s concerts and wanted to give her a friendship bracelet, iykyk. Which is so freaking adorable like I’m obsessed.

So here’s what we know.

  1. Kelce was spotted at the Era’s tour in the SAME ARROWHEAD that Taylor was in when watching his game. Coincidence? No. Fate.
  2. After Taylor was spotted at his game, the entire internet went literally crazy. I mean like crazy. The NFL was chatting up Taylor on their Twitter, (Is it X? Idk I hate Elon Musk) the TikTok Swifties were posting so many fan edits. Like okay, I love them as much as the next chronically online person does, but calm down. I mean, imagine you just started talking to someone and all of a sudden everyone in your school is posting about how cute you guys are and how you guys are soulmates. Now that I say it out loud I kinda would like that…but again I love talking about myself so.
  3. Patrick Mahomes interview. That’s literally it. The fact that he knew to pass the ball to Travis to impress Taylor, like that’s bromance goals, it’s adorable.
  4. THE POST-GAME DINNER!!!! So there was this blind item that was heavily implying that Taylor and Travis were all cuddled up at this restaurant Travis rented out for them and his football friends. Like she was sitting on his lap, they were whispering in each other’s ear, the whole nine yards. Of course, who am I to believe this? I have no proof. UNTIL, a picture came out of them after the game, and she’s all up on his lap. This is the only time I’m grateful for TMZ. Taylor Swift Puts Arm Around Travis Kelce at Postgame Party

5. The end. Okay, I’m being dramatic. This isn’t the end. Kelce was the one to address these rumors, he says that the headlines about them are “hilarious.” Can you please be more specific? Like a good hilarious? A bad hilarious? I need to know.

I’m sure this isn’t the end for them. I hope not. He’s really hot and they look good together.

Review of Grace’s Speech

October11

I found Grace’s speech about performative activism very impactful. She was very clear in her speech and her words all meant something, none of it seemed to be fluff. She made it clear that performative activism is too common in today’s era of social media, and double-tapping a photo doesn’t do anything.

I felt as though for my own speech, it definitely could’ve been better. I had a script in my notebook that I kept looking down to read, and I had to film it on my phone because my laptop’s microphone doesn’t work anymore. I also felt as though I could’ve added more slides. I do think I explained the #LikeAGirl campaign well, and I tried my best when analyzing it. I should’ve gestured to my side more to emphasize what the video was showing, but I hope my description of it made up for that.

Thank you!

Intro to Essay/Speech Outline

September24

The Always #LikeAGirl Super Bowl advertisement and the well-known Rosie the Riveter “We Can Do It!” poster are prominent examples of civic artifacts. Both civic artifacts relate to the SDG of gender quality and express this using everyday phrases in society, also known as Commonplaces. The Always’ company’s #LikeAGirl campaign uses a rhetorical situation to emphasize how this phrase in today’s day and age harms youth everywhere, not just young girls. The “We Can Do It!” poster was released in 1943 to encourage women to work in factories while the men who were employed there, were at war. This poster used ethos, pathos, and logos that persuaded women to join the workforce. Although both of these Commonplaces are different in the sense of audience, they both relate to gender equality and send a feminist message.

Speech Outline:

Open with an attention-grabbing line, “I run like a girl”.Then go on to explain what the Always campaign is.

Explain what happens in the advertisement, and how the phrase, #LikeAGirl, when incorporated with actions and had different reactions depending on who was asked.

Go into depth about how a rhetorical situation was used to demonstrate the Commonplace. Explain how this Commonplace has affected the minds of the youth. Explain that the phrase and this campaign connects to the SDG of gender equality.

Tie it up with how this advertisement has helped spread positivity on gender equality by using the Commonplace in a rhetorical situation.
