King’s Dominion Amusement Park
This was my first job. I worked for a store called Night Novelties. I soon learned that it is not an actual store where customers walk into. We approach the customers meaning merchandise carts. As a Night Novelties associate, I worked on bubble blower carts, candy carts, and glow up toy carts. Those light up toys that adults buy children while roaming around the park at night is exactly what I sold. This job was the typical blood, sweat, and tears job because I would be outside in the Virginia summers selling merchandise to visitors. All in all, I learned how to complete cash transactions, customer service, and give directions to visitors.
Hermitage Country Club
My next job was in the Banquet department of a country club in Virginia. I assisted with distribution of food, buffet monitoring, and dining preparations. Moving tables, polishing silverware, and folding napkins where just the start of my fun.
Adler Athletic Complex (Present)
I serve as a Student Supervisor in this job. My obligation is to make sure all building events are running smoothly and also oversee other student employees. I have worked in the concession stand for basketball games, served as a lane timer for a swim meet, a referee for recreational flag football, fitness loft/weight room attendant, and much more. I have worked in the gym on campus since 2017. Each day is a new experience and I love being a part of athletic activities. I believe athletics will be a part of my life no matter what my career turns out to be.
Pathway to Success: Summer Start Program Mentor
I qualified for this position because I spent my first year in it. I was then able to become a mentor for the second year of my summer enrollment. This opportunity allowed me to take courses and work on campus. This program is the reason why I am so successful in college to this day. I am ahead in credits which allowed me to take time determining my major. As a mentor, I held transition talks for first year students to help introduce them to college and get them familiar with Penn State Altoona’s resources.
Comprehensive Studies Program Mentor (Present)
As a mentor, I assisted first year students with their transition into college. I held weekly meetings with my mentees and met biweekly with the programs assistant coordinator to report on the students progress. I believe my impact on these students motivated them to become better students and aspire for higher achievements in life.
Engineering Career Envoy (Present)
The Career Services Office is a special place on our campus. The employees help students prepare for life outside of college and I am honored everyday to be a part of it. Through this employment opportunity I have attended and assisted with career fairs, spoke with employers from various companies, and presented to my peers. My goal is to motivate other students to seek internships and prepare for life outside of school.
Westinghouse Electric Company
The summer of 2019, I interned at Westinghouse as a Manufacturing Engineering Intern with a team in the Nuclear Parts Operations. My day to day task’s consisted of touring Westinghouse facilities, taking charge of three major projects, and learning more about office environments. The interns attended multiple training’s with context from generational leadership qualities to the basics of nuclear energy. The first project under my influence was implementing new technology. A new device from Agilent Technologies was to be delivered and implemented for operational use. The Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy devices were the Carry 630 and FTIR 4300. Next, I researched the process of installing an in-house platting line. Electroplating finishing process involves multiple chemicals in which need their own waste process. I called multiple vendors for quotes and learned more about the processing each step of the way. Lastly, I worked on creating an innovative mill machine guard that would not obstruct the operators work space. The mill machines at this company were highly effective when in use but also lead to difficulties in production. Therefore, it was important to use the engineering design process by knowing the customers needs and wants before producing a design. Overall, my internship provided me with the opportunity to apply my classroom knowledge to a work field.
Student Ambassador (Present)
I have been approached by Dr. Martin to assist on a big project using my project management skill-set. Here is my invitation letter.
