And……….. Writing in French
My major is French, Français, and I’ve been taking French since second grade. Now I know some of you are confused, second grade? Yes, I went to a magnet school that offered French and I continued with it ever since then. I am close to fluent in French. Fun fact: a lot of people say I sound like I’m from France. Since I’ve taken French for so long, I knew it was something that I wanted to continue. I am not exactly sure what I want to do with my French major but I do know that I hope to make a change somehow. Dans le lycée (high school), I took French and ma prof de Français, Mlle Kantz, introduced us to a lot of French music. Some of the artists I remember are Stromae, Maître Gims and Indila. Merci à Mlle Kantz for sparking my interest in French music.
What’s so great about French music you ask? Pour moi (For me), it is easy to relate to. In Stromae’s song Tous Les Mêmes, which translates to all the same, it addresses the issue of inequality between men and women in relationships. Aussi, French music has a way of bringing up political things in a way that you wouldn’t notice unless you either know French or the political reference. I think French Music is relatable and has a way of getting you to think about things.
