Allegory
Part 1:
Definition: An allegory is a work of art, such as a story or painting, in which the characters, images, and/or events act as symbols.
Examples: (1)“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”
―
(2)“Nowhere in Chaucer do we find what can be called a radically allegorical poem.”
―
Explanation/ Analysis: Allegory is used to reveal a hidden meaning or message. They use characters and events to convey meaning. Allegory is useful when you use literature to teach lessons and explain moral. You would not want to use allegory in a drama genre.
Part 2: The bible is an example in which allegory is used. It relates to the text as a whole because the bible has many different interpretations and I think the bible can be looked at, at many different view points. I think it is memorable because I think it is talked about a lot that the bible conveys different messages so people will argue about different standppoints in the bible but it’s because we all see it differently. I think it is effective.
