The Library | Past to Future

Libraries, at their core, are a collection of knowledge or information. The modern term ‘library’ stems from the latin ‘liber,’ or book. In their ancient form, libraries served as the physical place that archived pieces of writing—typically folklore, religious/omen/meteorological texts, or financial/legal agreements. By the height of Rome, libraries became much more common and serving to the more general public. Most notable of these libraries in the famed Library of Alexandria, but even this had only a few collections open fully to the public. Meadowcroft Climate and Area Information

The Meadowcroft site lies in Washington County, Pennsylvania. It is on the border of the Town of Jefferson and Avella. This area is about 35 miles south-west of Pittsburgh. The land is identified as a historic landmark as archeologist have discovered ruins that identifies active civilization dating back 16,000 years. (Heinz History Center) According to the area website, the site is maintained by the Heinz History Center, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute. The nomination form used to submit the site into the National Historic Landmark Association states that the land is own privately. Historically the sites function was Residential – Single and Multiple welling units. Currently it is categorized as Recreation and Culture with a sub-category indicated as Museum. History, Culture and People of Meadowcroft

 

Intro:

Meadowcroft Rockshelter, is a rock overhang, located in Avella, Washington County, PA.

The unique artifacts found on the site indicate that there were people since 16,000 years ago. It initially was used as a shelter by Paleoindians (first people ever lived in North America), and then became home for Native Americans who left the area during American Revolutionary War and later on 19th Century American habitats.

Studying the site opens up the door to some of the oldest and deepest parts of the history of the world and America, making it the suitable site , for designing a building, not only belonging to present, but also the future. Not only America, but also the world.
