Library Program- Version 2

The following is the proposed program for the long now library.

Collection Area: 8000-12000 sq. ft.

  • Knowledge Center/ Stacks 5000-9000 sq.ft (50,000 -90,000 volume books)
  • Non printing area 2000 sq.ft
  • Periodicals 1000 sq.ft

Storage: 676 sq. ft.

  • Documents room 176 sq. ft
  • Administrate archives 324 sq. ft

Administration Area: 2884 sq. ft.

  • 2 small offices 200 sq.ft  ( 100 sq. ft per office)
  • A large office 150 sq. ft
  • 2 executive offices 450 sq. ft ( Mehrdad office is 13 ft x 20 ft)
  • Reception desk 80 sq. ft ( Reception area at main office of Stuckeman building is 18 ft x 12 ft )
  • Reception seating area 200 sq.ft
  • Big conference room 600 sq. ft ( Big conference room next to jury space is  45 ft x 14 ft )
  • 2 Small conference rooms 500 sq. ft ( Conference room 106 is  – History class- 19 ft x 14 ft)
  • Admin facility center( printer, Copier, fax center) 60 sq. ft
  • File Area 144 sq. ft
  • IT center 200 sq. ft

Building Facility: 6300 sq. ft.

  • Bathroom Area 300 sq. ft for 570 person.

-Based on IBC chapter 29:

Library: 1 WC per 95, 1 Lav per 200, 1 drinking fountain per 500, 1 service sink,

Stuckeman Family Building Bathroom area (women and men) is 22 ft x 28 ft.

  • Mechanical 3000 sq. ft ( 10% of total gross area)
  • Public Area ( stairs, Corridor, etc) 3000 sq. ft (10% of total gross area)

Eatery: 4000 sq. ft.

  • Café 2500 sq. ft
  • Kitchen 500 sq. ft
  • Dining Area 1000 sq. ft

-Starbucks at College Ave,  is 50 ft x 50 ft including kitchen

-Warnock Commons including Blue Spoon on right,  Buffet on left and all the dinning area and seating area is  100 ft x 180 ft

Public Area: 8200 sq. ft.

  • Reading/ Study Area 2500 sq. ft ( 10 sq. ft per chair)
  • Auditorium 5200 sq. ft for 570 person ( 9 sq.ft per person )
  • 5 Meeting Spaces 500 sq. ft ( 25 sq. ft per person )

-Jury space area is almost 45 ft x 56 ft

-Study room in Stuckeman library- Meeting once with Marcus- is 15 ft x 25 ft

-Hub Center from Starbucks to Sbarro is 200 ft x 200 ft

Technology Center: 1150 sq. ft.

  • Computer cluster 750 sq. ft ( Each computer station required 75 sq. ft )
  • Audio station 200 sq. ft ( 10 sq. ft per chair)
  • Visionary hub 200 sq. ft ( 10 sq. ft per chair)

TOTAL:  31,000-35,000 sq.ft

A library is considered as a collection of sources of any kind of information. The following chart  includes the essential spaces  required for the design.
Needless to say , these spaces and their attributes could be slightly changed based on the type of information and resources that the library is designed for.

  1. Great job! I was thinking we might need some more space for parking lot in our program, maybe 50 cars spot is good : )

This post is the most current and best describes what we believe to be the adequate amount of space for each space for the program of the library.   3. There are a few posts about program, one from Steven and two from Shokofeh. It might be easier if they were condensed into one amended post so that its easier to follow the information.
