The Impact of Makeup

Beauty is often seen as a misconception and is often misguided by multiple people. There is  a big controversy within the beauty community and society as a whole. Beauty itself is not to cover up your natural physique with layers upon layers of product but rather its to embrace your natural being whether that be with scars, blemishes, or even insecurities. The word perfect is understood worldwide and everyone is aware that no one is perfect, as much botox they get, surgeries, or any other kind of cosmetic enhancements no one will ever be perfect. This blog here today is for everyone in the beauty community to acknowledge what beauty is and is not. Society has multiple perspectives and opinions on the definition of beauty itself, but the real definition and the only one that matters is what you consider and see as beautiful. Along with the evolution of makeup and how it has progressed, empowered, and impacted society.

As mentioned previously makeup definitely has progressed over the years and although techniques have revolutionized over the years it still seems as if past makeup looks will forever stay present, women today still use past looks as their everyday routine today. Makeup has been around since the ancient times of Egypt. Simple products like henna and kohl around their eyes were used by both men and women  because they believed it kept the evil eye away from them. Scientists today believe it even kept their eyes healthier by keeping bacteria away. Egyptians also developed the first anti-wrinkle cream and other serums out of natural resources like castor oils, beeswax, rosewater, etc. In  china fingernail paintings started in 3000 BCE. In Japan they used crushed safflower petals as lipstick and to paint their eyebrows, and rice powder to color their face. Fast forward to the 20th century women aspired to have a pale skin tone for their face by using white powders that consisted of arsenic, pinched their cheeks to bring color, used beetroot as lipstick, boot polish as mascara, foundation that was a blend of margarine and chalk

In the 1970s men started using makeup as well especially those participating in rock bands. The 1980’s makeup for women consisted of bright eyeshadows, bold lipsticks, and big hair with lots of hairspray. In 1990’s embraced both a natural look or dark lipstick with kohled eyes. Modern makeup did not start until the 20th century. Cosmetics themselves have progressed tremendously as well from consistency, usage, and the products own cosmestic goals. For example many products of today are based on taking care of our skin and aren’t as heavy and thick as they were before.

Makeup today everyone seems to have their own unique style as far as makeup looks but a lot of women today are also starting to embrace their own natural skin and physique. A makeup routine today will consist of all produced products with no natural cosmetics like back then. It will include primer, foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, blush, mascara, eyelashes, highlight, etc. Techniques have also improved themselves, today you can find many tutorials on how to make your nose smaller, imitate a jawline with bronzer, or even something as simple creating eyebrows with your own natural shape or giving yourself the shape you want. Makeup has definitely become a form or art for many people by expressing themselves through their eyeshadows and their overall finishing looks. There’s so much you can do with makeup and that will continue to be discovered as it keeps revolutionizing. It is believed makeup will be a concept that will keep on progressing and improving for society as a whole. Never forget what makes you beautiful!

This is interesting! I didn’t know that makeup went so far back. I also noticed you used strong verbs like ‘progressed and ‘revolutionized.’
