Our song of the week for (09/18) this Friday is Guilty Conscience by 070 Shake and Tame Impala. This song is not out of an album and is just a single that they released. This song came out in 2020 under the “Alternative” category. This song is a remix of the original song that came out of 070 Shake’s debut album called “Modus Vivendi” in 2019. You can find this song on Apple Music and Spotify.
Best Scenario for this song to be played: While you’re in your room getting dressed or ready for the day. Such a good song to move to.
Lyrics
Voice in my head
I hear what it said
I can’t trust a thing
If I picked up and left
How fast did you forget?
Resting while I’m inside your presence
I don’t want to think nothing bad
This time I won’t
This time I won’t
Could not believe what I saw, yeah
You on another one’s body
Ghosts of the past came to haunt me
I caught you but you never caught me
I was sitting here waitin’ on karma
There goes my guilty conscience
There goes my guilty conscience
Could not believe what I saw, yeah
You on another one’s body
Ghosts of the past came to haunt me
I caught you but you never caught me
I was sitting here waitin’ on karma
There goes my guilty conscience
There goes my guilty conscience
As you can see I bolded some of the more prominent lyrics, this song was written by 070 Shake about a lovers infidelity and how her past relationships led her to that “Guilty Conscience” and when she finds out about her partners infidelity ” you on another one’s body” her guilty conscience goes away. When she says ” I was sitting here waitin on karma”, means due to her infidelity in her past relationships, it was like she already knew that what she did was going to come back to her in a way. This song is short, but can be interpreted in so many different ways.
Tame Impala has been on the come up lately and they’ve gone from being extremely underground to the most known indie band out there. They just released a new album this year as well and if you like this song then I’d definitely give their new album a listen. Tame Impala doesn’t do many remixes so I was excited to figure out that they threw their own spin on this song.
I didn’t focus much on the lyrics when listening to this song, but I personally named this song of the week because of the rhythm and melody it has. Something about the harmony of 070 Shake and Tame Impala with this melody brings me a sense of nostalgic peace. I’ve never heard a song like this before with the rhythm that this song has and I don’t think there are many songs out in the music world that sound like this. In the beginning of the song before the lyrics, the song has a beat that increases as we get to the chorus and you can hear the drums come in louder, the guitar and the bass and then, it drops straight to the chorus. This is the most exhilarating part of the song to me. I recommend you listen to this song and first, listen to just the background sounds, the instruments and rhythm the song has and then listen to it again for the lyrics if you choose. Apple music has a version of the song with no lyrics and just the instrumental, if you’re interested. You will definitely not regret listening only to the instrumental and it’ll be stuck in your head for weeks, so listen at your own risk of being obsessed!
