3D Modeling; Project 1 Concept

For my Mondrian Animation’s conceptual work, I decided to do a mix of drawing from the painting to find where I needed to position things, and then storyboards to chart the animation so I could have an idea of where I wanted the camera to be, and where I wanted the rectangles to come in from. My first idea had a lot of rotation involved, but I wasn’t exactly sure how to do so. After a bit of sketching, I decided to have the large blue rectangle from the Mondrian image I picked rotate down along the Y-Axis and the small blue rectangles rotate in from translating from both the X and Z axis.

As for the other items, besides one scale/translate, they were all planned to be simple translations that slid right into place. I wasn’t too sure how they were all going to come together, but I had tried to plan that as I created the storyboards. I used the storyboards as a guide to finish the animation. I didn’t manage to finish the ones on the actual storyboard template, but I finished a rough thumbnail sketch of each storyboard. I wanted to do more with the storyboards, but I found I did much better if I just jumped in and started working. Storyboards III

Storyboards II

These are the images of the storyboard templates. I wasn’t able to finish all of them, and one is an alternate form of one of the others that actually ended up being the final animation. Doing this helped me get an idea of where I wanted everything to go and what I wanted things to do. It is a little difficult for others to understand, though.

Mondrian Storyboards Pt 2

These are sketches that I based on the painting that I picked. It shows where the rectangles and planes should be placed and one even focuses on how the animation should go for the blue boxes specifically.

this is my Mondrian painting that I chose.
