Symmary:
This week was an oddball week for me. My mother got COVID, most of my classes were cancelled for the week, and I was sick with a cold (I consistently tested negative for COVID-19) for Wednesday through Friday. I didn’t really do art or any work at all until Saturday and into today or Sunday. I was so overwhelmed with all that was going on, that I couldn’t function and being sick on top of it was worse.
Work wise, I re-designed Duke. I made one portrait of him and it was enough to jog my brain to get a solid idea of how i wanted him to look all the time. So, I quickly hopped over to his introduction document and changed it. Another task I did was write 5 new character profiles and added to the other four. And the final task I did was I wrote a bit of the story synopsis draft.
In the honorable mentions section, I did some work on the webtoon. I changed the final panel (panel 9) and I shaded Laelie. Otherwise, I didn’t have a lot of time to work much more on the webtoon although I really did want to do so. I will attach it at the bottom of the blog post in the honorable mentions section.
Duke Hammerfist:
To start off, Duke looked like this before…
When I began iterating on his design to make it appear more monstrous, it didn’t really read that way. So I went back to the drawing board and tried to really think of what scares me. For me, tattoos, markings, visible teeth, and scars all scare me. So I decided to give Duke some “clan markings” from his past in his orc clan along the sides of his face and neck and a mark of abandonment (although that’s not the right word really) on his forehead.
So this was what he eventually looked like.
I gave him a bun, so you could clearly see his markings. he has some hair on the sides but it’s mostly shaved down. His teeth and under-bite are much more prominent. And that was about it for the changes for Duke.

Story Synopsis:
I wrote part of the story synopsis. I don’t really have much to talk about right now. I mostly have questions. Like mainly… how much info do i give out. How much do I spoil, how do I format it? It was very baffling to write to be to completely frank.
Here it is:
Synopsis:
Magic, adventure, and a little bit of steam, Nox Notaré is a story that follows a young magic-user named Laelie and a rag-tag group of other magicians from an organization known as the Magician’s Association. Their mission, to learn why the Kingdom of Notaré is plagued with an illness known as the Scourge of the Forsaken and why it only affects those with little to no magic. They adventure from town, coast, to desert, hoping to find the answers they are seeking. Along the way, friends aid them, foes trick and harm them, and their bonds are pushed to the brink of dissolution.
Character Bios:
I mostly just added to the original bios and made 5 new ones. I haven’t really fine toothed them yet. I want to get them all done and edit them all at once. So far, Laelie, Lunelis, Myra, Selene, Mythos, Duke, Noah, Lucas, and Tybald have had their character profiles drafted.
And here they are:
Laelie Thompson:
Laelie is a 15-year-old magician. Despite being the youngest and most inexperienced on her team, she’s not to be underestimated. She’s ready for any task their journey will throw at her with a smile and determined spark in her eye. She is a half-celestial, and has powerful healing and light based magics. She’s very kind and is often told she is wise for her age. She’s even accepting of people who are cruel to her, always believing in the good in others. She has a childhood friend named Noah, and an older brother named Lucas. They both are half-celestial as well, and she and Noah share a guardian angel whom they use to stay in contact.
Lunelis Runefeld:
A prideful elven arcane magician. He’s very discriminatory of half-blooded people. His pride as a noble elf is placed above all else, but that doesn’t mean he can’t change. His cold ways are the subject of his best friend Myra’s scrutiny, and she wishes this journey will change him for the better. He, despite not liking half-bloods, cannot help but be kinder than normal to half Celestial, Laelie Thompson. Seeing this has raised Myra’s hopes that her friend can overcome his discriminatory nature and live a life with more connections in a diverse world.
Myra Rosewood:
An energetic noble elf who ran away from her family home with her childhood friend Lunelis. She’s kind and is always concerned for others over herself. Her hyper nature sometimes overshadows this wonderful quality of herself though. She is concerned for Lunelis and wants him to accept more people other than her and her partner, a water Djinn named Selené Emeraldí. She hopes with more interactions with half celestial Laelie and half orc Duke will mellow out his cold prejudices against those who do not fit the “norm”. Myra loves fashion and make up and will dress Laelie and Selene up as much as she can. She also will try to get Lunelis to be a bit less stuffy and dress in the latest styles. Her magic is earth based and is reliant on ground and water.
Selené Emeraldí:
A water Djinn that was cursed to be trapped in a bottle after declaring to her fiancée that she loved Myra Rosewood and wished to absolve their arraigned marriage contract. She, despite being unable to be with Myra outside of her pure elemental form, maintains hope that someday her curse will be broken. Selené is a girl with a passion for anything musical and dance. She loves fashion, and often helps Laelie and Myra with outfit choices. Selené is very astute and intelligent and is often a creative thinker. She’s always got a plan and extras in case something goes wrong. She is a member of the SEAS unit in the Magician’s Association. Her magic is water based and she uses a ton of water manipulation spells. She is reliant on having a water source for her magic.
Duke Hammerfist:
Duke Hammerfist is the Lead Captain and Major of the Army unit in the Magician’s Association. He was borne of a cursed union between an orc and a mage mother. His mother was studying orcs, so she didn’t reject him upon birth like most half-orc’s mothers, but the price of that was hard for Duke to handle. His mother treated him like an experiment, and he was often observed from a young age by her and her colleagues. He used to think that every magician and human were cold and callus, but when he went to the Magician’s Association for refuge after being ousted by his Orc clan, he slowly changed. His personality is the equivalent of a giant teddy bear, he loves hugs, and he admittedly has a teddy-bear named after his favorite snack, Mr. Snuffles that he hides in his pack.
Mythos Arumanda:
The adopted grandson of Captain Dite Arumanda and a Major in the SOAR unit. He grew up admiring his grandmother, and vows that he will take over her position one day. He is fiercely loyal to his teammates. A lovable goofball, he loves ale and will often get drunk with drinking buddy, Duke Hammerfist. His magic is flying based. He, like the others in the magician association was abandoned at a young age. He wants to free the world of discrimination against magicians so young magic-users like him won’t be lost and alone. Mythos’ is a very happy person, but he does have a bit of a temper. He will protect and defend his teammates and is very level-headed. Even in the face of danger, he is calm and will always have a plan and a back up.
Noah Silverman:
A young half-celestial and Laelie’s childhood friend. Noah is a Cadet in the Special Operations Corps while Laelie was in the Core Operations Corps. Noah wanted Laelie to advance, but she would be transferred if she did so, so he was grateful that she wasn’t. He is a quiet person, but he does have a bit of a brash side. His temper is mostly centered around Laelie and her well-being. He does favor her quite a bit. He was abandoned as a six year old, and wandered for many months before finding the Magician’s Association. He met Laelie at 8 and they were inseparable since. He thinks of Lunelis as a rival for Laelie’s attention and affection.
Lucas Thompson:
Laelie’s older brother and a Major in the SOAR unit. He is a half-celestial who finally gained his wings. He’s cold to Laelie and Noah despite being a supportive figure to both before. Laelie mostly ignores his presence as it brings her pain to see him ignore her and give her cold glares. Lucas is a very serious person, who only wants his teammates to grow and advance. He shows more care towards his work rather than his family. He knows that Laelie resents him, but he has his reasons for stepping back and staying away. It does pain him, though, that his little sister can’t even stand to look at him.
Tybald Metason:
Tybald is a young magician who masquerades as an apprentice Private Eye. He was rejected from the Magician’s Association, but he holds no ill will against it. He lives in Mistwood Village in the West Side with his master Mattias Oak. He takes in the group so they can have a base at Mistwood, as it is the only village that openly accepts magicians. He is very flirty and will often flirt with Laelie and Myra. He likes to tease Lunelis, who is stuffy and stuck up. He compiles a lot of tips and connections for the team so they can find out what is causing the illness wreaking havoc on the land. He’s very honest, almost brutally so, and very observant. He’s caring as well, and always waits up for the team to return from dangerous excursions with a medical case in hand just in case they need a hand.
