STAYING FIT PART 2

Hey guys! Welcome back. This week I’m going to continue talking about ways to stay in shape during quarantine! Just to update you from last week, I’ve been keeping up with my yoga and it honestly really helps me start my day off by being motivated and ready to do school. Some of the mornings I don’t do yoga I just feel really lazy and not energetic compared to the days I do. With that being said, I definitely recommend trying some type of yoga during this little break of ours if you haven’t already! Okay, let’s get into the post!

  1. Biking/Cycling

Another big thing that’s helping me stay in shape is biking or cycling. I personally have been alternating between cycling in my house on the indoor bike and going for bike rides in the woods/around my neighborhood. If I’m being completely honest I always underestimated how useful riding a bike would be for maintaining a fit body and boy how wrong I was. I normally go for bike rides for about 50 minutes to an hour keeping a relatively fast pace, and let me tell you I am SWEATING by the time I’m done. If I’m cycling in my house I love listening to a podcast (something I don’t really have time to do otherwise) and it honestly keeps my mind off of me exercising. So, if you find yourself having a hard time getting through a workout, turn on a podcast that you enjoy and workout that way.

  1. Stand more!!

Before you laugh, I’m here to tell you that increasing how much you stand a day can help you stay in shape. If you’re like me, you LOVE to sit — literally 24/7 sitting. I now started standing for about 6-7 hours a day and I feel so much more energized. Studies show that “standing instead of sitting for six hours a day is healthier, could prevent weight gain and help people to lose weight” (Mayo Clinic). So if you’re feeling unmotivated and lazy, get up and stand! A tip I have is to watch you’re Zoom lectures standing up! It’s a good way to pass the time and get some standing in.

  1. Dance!

Here me out- dancing can help you burn calories and put you in a happy mood! I might be a little biased with this tip though because I danced since I was 2 years old. But, seriously! Dancing is so easy and fun. I either watch a video on YouTube, play JustDance on the wii (lol throwback), or just dance around my house. Yes- disclaimer- your family might laugh at you and look at you like you’re insane. But it is super easy and fun to do. Dancing also includes making Tik Toks to the dance trend videos (something I’m so guilty of doing 24/7)!!

That’s all I have for this post, can’t wait to chat next week! Hope you all are staying healthy, (somewhat) happy, and safe.

  1. Hi Ariana!
I really enjoyed reading this blog post! Exercising has definitely been keeping me sane during quarantine (I’ve been trying to run every day), so I appreciate these tips on other things I could do to stay fit. I actually adore dancing and used to Irish dance and do Zumba (both very different haha) but recently I’ve been missing it a lot. I completely agree with you, dancing around to some music never fails to put me in a happy mood. I’ll definitely check out that video because I’ve been looking for a good dance video to follow!

  2. Hi Ariana,
I’ve been doing yoga too and it’s been a really nice addition to my life. It is so calming and relaxing, and I am definitely going to continue it throughout this quarantine and after! I really liked the other tips you provided to stay fit as well. Although I tend to sit more, I have been trying to get up and stand or walk around throughout the day to make sure I am not just sitting all day long. I also completely forgot about JustDance, but now that you mention it, I am going to have to go back and play. I decided to watch the dance video you linked at the end of the post, and it looks like a really fun way to work out! I will definitely be trying it out, so thank you for the suggestion!

  3. Hi Ariana!
I enjoyed reading your blog this week! I love working out, but I do need to get better at doing it at home. I do go on walks around my neighborhood and do JustDance on the Wii also (lol). I will try the dance workout video you linked! Thanks for the tips!

  4. Hi Ariana!
I thought your blog was really helpful as I am really struggling with staying healthy during the quarantine. I used to walk around my neighborhood for about an hour every day but since I have an absurd amount of homework, I don’t finish until late at night which at that time I don’t feel comfortable going outside. That being said I will definitely try out that dance workout in order to help me stay fit while at my house! Thanks for the help.
