Ranger Challenge
Mission
The mission of the Ranger Challenge Team is to secure victory in the 2nd Brigade’s Ranger Challenge Competition, typically held in mid-October, followed by participation in the prestigious Sandhurst Competition at West Point in the Spring. The Ranger Challenge provides cadets with an opportunity to test their physical and mental endurance through rigorous, fast-paced skills training, all while enduring physically demanding physical training (PT). Key individual skills include land navigation, weapons systems proficiency, rappelling, and combat casualty care. In addition to competing, the Ranger Challenge Team is committed to developing disciplined, confident cadets who are prepared to lead their peers during Advanced Camp and throughout their time in the Nittany Lion Battalion.

What We Do
The Ranger Challenge training structure is rooted in competition from the first day. This makes the actual competition in October seem familiar by the time the team arrives. The second week of class will be the beginning of RAP (Ranger Assessment Phase) week. RAP week is open tryouts for those who would like to be on the team. Those who make the team after RAP week will then complete a 6 week train-up in order to select the starting 9 and 2 alternates. Train-up will consist of PT 5 days and skills labs 2 days a week. PT will consist of a mix of endurance, strength, and skills to simulate the competition. Labs will be more focused on the technical aspects of the competition such as weapon systems, land navigation, one rope bridge, repelling, and combat casualty care.
Training Schedule
PT: Monday – Friday 0500 – 0700
Lab: Tuesday & Thursday 1535 – 1735
