Alright, this piece ended up being such a pain that Im not super happy with it, but honestly I’m just sick of fighting with illustrator. The rose concept seemed simple enough in my head, but when it all really came down to it, getting the offset petals in this piece ended up taking 95% of my time. I really loved how they turned out! But, such a huge pain to get them to cooperate.

And so, the cardboard sculpture of the camera is complete. It came out slightly larger than life size of the sketch, but not outrageously bigger. Overall, I’m quite happy with how it turned out!

Here you can see the final model for this stacked cardboard project! In the model view you can see the sketches used to generate the forms. The final render was done with a blue aluminum just because I thought it looked cool.

mandalaTheElements

A mandala is supposed to be a fleeting work of art that is destroyed quickly after many hours of work is put into it. It symbolizes the fleeting aspect of life. Much akin to that, these ideas were quick and fleeting as they will probably never see the light of day past this blog post.

This exercise was all about using illustrator and exploring color more in depth. Starting at the top left, we have the correspondence between hue and their corresponding brightness. Moving over to a simulated transparency next to it. The bottom left touching closer to figure ground relationships and how black and white can influence each other. Lastly, the bottom right showcases how inverted colors can actually create a duality in middle gray.
