Currently, I am in an art history course and I have been enjoying it so far. If you couldn’t tell I am a bit of an art buff, so I was interested in learning about art throughout the ages. That being said, I had never taken time out of my schedule to stop by the Palmer Art Museum. To be honest I just didn’t expect it to be anything very spectacular as it was an art museum at a college. Then my art history course assigned a project that involved analyzing a piece from Palmer and it definitely exceeded my expectations

If you have not been to the Palmer Art Museum, I highly suggest you go at least once in your college career. At the Palmer, there is far more than you would expect. They have exhibits that come in and out of the museum throughout the year. If there isn’t something that interests you now, there will likely be something in the upcoming exhibits that may peak your interest.

The current exhibit to see is the Plastic Entanglements: Ecology, Esthetics, Materials exhibit which focuses on our relationship with plastic and the ecosystem we live in. It takes up a large portion of the upstairs area of the museum and is fascinating to explore. You can also look through the permanent collection of the Palmer Art Museum. There is a wide variety of art including the Renaissance, Baroque, and Contemporary pieces. When I went I was especially surprised to look through their pieces from the fifteen and sixteen-hundreds.

So why should you go to visit the Palmer Art Museum? Well for one is an entirely free experience for you. The museum is open to the public and is extremely welcoming to visitors. You can see pieces that you would have to pay for if they were anywhere else. Additionally, it is a part of Penn State that should be more appreciated I know not everyone is crazy about art, but I am positive that every single person can benefit by spending some time away from the craziness of college and enjoying some relaxing time surrounded by artwork.
