Industry Career Panel

We’re bridging the gap between academia and industry, with the long-term goal of diversifying the biomechanics workforce. Our panelists will introduce their roles in biomechanics-related workplaces and discuss industry career options for STEM scholars. Come learn about non-academic biomechanics job opportunities!

Markerless Mo-Cap

This workshop is intended to provide an overview of markerless motion tracking. By the end of this workshop attendees will 1) understand the underlying principles of this measurement technique, 2) be informed of its current levels of accuracy for various types of movement, and 3) witness some potential applications and a demonstration of the technology. Specifically, markerless motion tracking via the new, open-source tool, OpenCap (https://www.opencap.ai/), will be demonstrated as it is widely accessible and could be easily integrated into laboratory research and/or classroom teaching settings.

Getting Started in Biomechanics Research

This workshop is intended for students and new researchers who want to get involved in biomechanics research. Topics covered include: how to develop your niche and expertise, an overview of key skills you should develop, how to tell explain your biomechanics “research story”, and crafting a plan for growth. This will be a fun and engaging workshop with lots of activities and opportunities to get to know other students.

Speed Da… Networking

During this event, you will be able to network with an impressive number of colleagues in a short period of time. You will have about five minutes with each colleague. This is enough time for you to exchange business cards, speak briefly about your career path and research work, and ask questions about theirs. Then you move on to the next person. After speed networking is over, there will be some time for free interaction during cocktail hour.
