Speech Performance Reflection

Overall, I think I did pretty well on my speech in all regards: both content and presentation.

In regards to content, I think I provided a thorough, analytic approach and included a lot of different rhetorical viewpoints for understanding my artifact, “Mask up or Pack Up” (also random side tangent, if I have to write the words “Mask Up or Pack Up” anymore, I think I might scream, haha!).  I began by describing the rhetorical situation around the artifact, then analyzed the artifact from the perspective of kairos, pathos, and ethos.  The only part of my content that might be a bit questionable was the conclusion, where I brought my personal viewpoint about the artifact a bit.  I did so in sentences like “masks are more important now than its ever been,” etc, which could be seen as volleying for my artifact rather than analyzing it.  I am comfortable with this, however.  Partially because I personally don’t think wearing masks is negotiable in public settings when distancing is not an option, and because I used it to tie in my conclusory points about the civil nature of the artifact.

As far as presentation goes, I chose to present in a bit more of a casual, conversive way (personal preference for performing) without sacrificing content quality.  I am pretty nervous public speaking (even over a video, apparently lol) so I had a few stumbles.  The worst occurred during the conclusion of my speech, and considering this was probably my millionth attempt at getting a perfect recording, I wasn’t too inclined to re-record a small mistake at the end.  I do also tend to gesture a lot more when nervous, which I notice when watching my video back.  I believe if I had given this speech in person, that might have been a bit distracting or more obvious, but due to the small video size, I don’t think it interfered too much.
