Based on the books written by Andrzej Sapkowski, the Netflix show had great reviews from the start. The show is about the fantasy series of Geralt of Rivia who is a “Witcher.” In the series, witchers are beings with supernatural abilities that are tasked with slaying beasts and monsters. However, they have a bad rep as many people fear the witchers, as they don’t understand their capabilities. I think that Netflix did a great job with adapting the book series and transforming it into a show, that many people can enjoy, especially those who miss Game of Thrones.

In the show, Geralt of Rivia was played by Henry Cavil. I think that Cavil was a fantastic casting choice for the show because he really has the build and the manner, of someone who should be feared and is very mysterious. Cavil also does all of his own stunts throughout the show, which shows he was really dedicated to the role. I think that it is very special when an actor is able to do his own stunts as it keeps the flow of the action scenes uninterrupted.

One thing that I did not like about the show was the sequence of all the episodes. Each episode happens in a different time period of Geralt’s life which makes it very confusing to keep track of since there is never an indication of when the episode is happening. I had a hard time following the show until the final episode as it started to make sense of when everything happened. I would suggest that if you were to start watching this show, to look up the list in which order you should watch the episodes of the first season, so that it would make a more chronological sense.

Lastly, the best thing about the show, in my opinion, is how realistic the fight sequences are, as there is usually at least one in each episode. Compared to Game of Thrones I think that the fights in the show are more realistic as you can see more what is going on. In Game of Thrones many of the fights season sort of blur together and you can not really tell what is going on. But of the other hand, many of the fight sequences in the witcher are very clear, as you can see the detail the stunt director puts in the hand to hand combat. If you are interested in watching the show I suggest you watch it before 2021 as that is when the second season is planned to be released.
