Welcome to Augmented Encounters!

Poster of Augmented Encounter

Augmented Encounters is an interactive textile art installation created by Agricultural and Biological Engineering and Art Education students and faculty at Pennsylvania State University during the 2021 Fall semester.

As a participatory art pedagogy, Dr. Karen Keifer-Boyd, a professor of Art Education and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, led a series of workshops titled Creating Inclusivity, Community, and Sustainability with Agricultural and Biological Engineering and Art Education students and faculty. The participants fostered feelings of belonging through the sharing of personal stories and cross-disciplinary conversations about community-building, inclusivity, and sustainability. This interactive Indigo-dyed textile collaborative art is the outcome of generative dialogues and creative making in the workshop.

Anyone can interact with Augmented Encounters by downloading the Adobe Aero application on a smartphone or tablet. Please engage with our artwork by scanning the interactive QR code below (or click here):

If you are not familiar with Adobe Aero or QR codes, you can find the instructions on the menu named “How it Works” on the left. A documentary about the project by Ye Sul Park, a first-year Art Education doctoral student, is available on the menu named “Documentary” soon.
