Let’s go exploring: Penn State Arboretum

This week’s exploration blog took me to the Penn State arboretum. On a chilly Sunday afternoon I grabbed my camera and made the somewhat long walk from Pollock Residence Halls to the arboretum. This was my first time visiting the arboretum but I had heard so many great things from various people about the beauty of it. It definitely did not disappoint. I was stunned when I first saw all the beautiful trees and flowers. It was such a calm atmosphere. Luckily the botanic garden was practically empty so I got to spend almost an hour there reflecting and taking pictures of the dazzling flowers. What I did not know about the Penn State arboretum is that there is a children’s garden. That was a really cool experience. When I arrived at the children’s garden (simply by chance), it was delightful to see all of the parents, grandparents, and children playing in the garden. As a college student, I usually only come in contact with college students. It was refreshing to see people of all ages on campus. I can truly understand why many people take engagement photos or get married at the Penn State arboretum. It is a special sight to behold. There are also plenty of places to study there. Who wouldn’t want to study in such a beautiful atmosphere! I’m gutted that I visited the arboretum so late in the year because unfortunantley it is getting a bit too chilly to study there now. It will definitely be my Sunday afternoon hangout spot once the spring rolls around!

In addition to the wonderful sights,a lot of awesome events happen at the arboretum too. This weekend (October 10th and 11th), there are two events happening. Friday there is a Jack-O’ Lantern display from 6pm until 9pm and on Saturday there is a night of music, food, vendors, and activities from 4:00pm-9:00pm.

If any of you have not been to the arboretum, I definitely recommend it! The arboretum and garden are open everyday from dawn until dusk and admission is free. So what are you waiting for? Get on over there!
