New Kids in Town: Orlando City SC

Major League Soccer has made great strides in the past few years in terms of attendance, TV Ratings, and quality of play. Along with these achievements, many cities are wanting a MLS team in their backyard. Orlando is no different. In 2015, Orlando City Soccer Club will join Major League Soccer as the league’s 21st franchise.

Orlando City SC will come into 2015 with an already established fan base, supporters group, and awesome logo. This is a rarity for new team joining the league. What makes Orlando City SC special is that the club has been around since 2010 playing the USL Pro, a second division soccer league. Orlando City is a team that has already created a roster full of stars. They recently announced that they have signed Brazilian legend Kaka for the upcoming season. Orlando City will play in a $10 million dollar soccer stadium that is currently under construction. It will take two years to complete so the team will play at the Florida Citrus Bowl until 2016.

Orlando City SC has came into the league in  style. Their new jerseys were announced yesterday and they are very simple, clean, and modern. The logo is a variation of the original logo, but it has a few teaks in size and font. What this team does not lack in is passion. From the front office staff to the players and to the fans, they have set this club up to be a quality MLS club.

This is really cool that another team will be joining the MLS. It just goes to show you that soccer is gradually growing in the United States and eventually will be just as popular as the NBA, NFL, or MLB. It definitely draws interest when we bring in older, but once good european players like Kaka and Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry. It will be exciting to see how they match up against teams in the pros I am looking forward to it!
