International Friendly: USA vs. Colombia

Today at 2:45 pm EST the United State’s Men’s National Team will take on Colombia, a strong South American team at Craven Cottage (home of Fulham FC) in London, England.

The United States has played Colombia 16 times with a 3-4-9 (wins, losses, draws) record overall. The most notable win for the United States came in the 1994 group stage of the world cup with a 2-1 upset at the Rose Bowl. This game took the US into the knockout stages.  Their last meeting occurred in 2010 with a 0-0 draw at PPL Park, home of the Philadelphia Union (I was there!!).

With only a few veterans on the roster, most notably Jozy Altidore who will be wearing the armband tonight, the game will be a great time for the US to test out some of it’s newest players. The US Roster for this game is has with very young players with Clint Dempsey being excluded from the roster. The two most notable new players to the squad are Jordan Morris, a soccer player at Stanford University and Miguel Ibarra, a player for the NASL side Minnesota United FC.

With Tim Howard announcing that he is taking a break from his national team duties, backup goalies Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Bill Haid (D.C United), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire), and Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake) have been called into camp.

For Colombia, everyone is looking at one person and one person only: James Rodriguez. After having a brilliant world cup with Colombia, James inked a deal with Spanish powerhouse side Real Madrid. He has been stellar this year and I am interested in how he will preform tonight.

My roommate is Colombian and we where arguing about who is going to win this game all week. I believe! I believe that we will win. I am so excited and can’t wait to catch the second half at the HUB. I really miss the world cup and I’m glad to see an international game.

I don’t watch too much soccer but I always enjoy watching the USMNT take the field! I can’t wait to see Jozy Altidore play once again after he was injured during the World Cup.
