Dubai – Barren land to a World City

Dubai is one of the busiest and populous city in the United Arab Emirates, also known as UAE. The story behind how this land of desert changed into one of the most fast paced cities in the world is tremendous. Today, Dubai is one of the most heterogenous cities around the world, consisting of people from all over the world.

The city is ruled by the royal family of Dubai, led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. So how did this piece of barren piece of land turn into one of the most advanced cities of the world? This is a question which always made me curious. The answer to that is Oil. Dubai generates more than half of it’s income from oil resources which are supplied to various countries all over the globe. Before oil was discovered as source of income in Dubai, fishing and the pearl industry supported the economy of the region.
Building and Architecture
As the revenue started to increase with the help of oil resources, Dubai started progressing as a worldwide known city which attracted workers from around the world. No one imagined that a land of desert would be transformed into an advanced city Dubai is today. This story of how this piece of land transformed is completely remarkable. Dubai experiences high number of tourists all year due to the number of tourist attractions it has. The world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa is located in Dubai, which stands tall at more than 828 meters. This building was made with the help sheikh of Dubai and architected by Adria Smith, an American architect. It is also ranked as one of the most expensive buildings ever made.

Cars

Another interesting fact about Dubai is the cars provided to the police force. If you’re a fan of cars, it will be fascinating to know that Dubai Police has the world’s fastest police car, a Bugatti Veron which is valued around 1.6 million dollars. This illustrates the economic progress of Dubai and UAE. Apart from Bugatti, Lamborghini Aventador has been provided to several employees in the police force. If you have ever been to Dubai, you would have witnessed many of the world’s best cars casually driving around. This surely displays the love for cars in Dubai !
