According to a study conducted by St. John’s University on nursing students, taking culture classes and immersive experiences improved the transcultural competence of the subjects. In conjunction with that, a community-wide effort, whether that be through established academic institutions or simply a township, where people come together to learn about other cultures can enhance the knowledge and understanding of people about others. This doesn’t necessarily need to be in a classroom setting either: going through traditions and customs that are specific to different cultures can be immersive and informative. Here are a few examples:
- Tea ceremonies
- Food preparation events
- Music streaming parties
- Movie watching events
Cultural education in this form can be voluntary and entertaining while reaching a wider audience.
